Exploding the Sky: Explotando el cielo
As a pyrotechnic with an ATF clearance, 4th of July is one of those holidays where I am always on call. Even though my main boss stepped away after having a child, I got the last minute call to help her cousin. Always up for travel, this venture involved going to Miami, specifically to Trump National Golf Course.
Como pirotécnico con autorización ATF, el 4 de julio es uno de esos días festivos en los que siempre estoy de guardia. A pesar de que mi jefe principal se alejó después de tener un hijo, recibí la llamada de último minuto para ayudar a su prima. It's probably not politically correct to say that I grabbed Trump's balls, but being that it was his golf course - and there were literally golf balls in our way that had to be tossed aside for the fireworks to be set up - technically, it is fitting to say that in this particular instance, so it became a running joke to say the least. It was almost like an Easter egg hunt, as you'd see these white shells popping up out of the ground all over. The course was really beautiful when we started, but after enough rain to get the truck stuck in the mud, it might not have been quite as beautiful as when we finished, regardless of repair efforts to the soggy green.

That's the joys of dealing with rainy season in Florida. When it downpours, it saturates everything. Not like we wanted to get the massive moving truck full of fireworks stuck, but it happened.

Trust me, we got soaked, too, and we had to try our best to set up in the rain. Don't be calling the union reps. We watched the weather, dodged as much rain as we could, but setup was very wet.

There were probably some really cool festivities going on behind us as we worked, but I only saw a glimpse on a trip to the bathroom and back. That's the glory of doing pyro, that you work while a lot of other people party. Somebody has to stay sober to handle explosives, so it might as well be me.
