Which baseball team will party? ¿Qué equipo de béisbol va a salir de fiesta?
Looking at the current FCL baseball standings, it’s that nail biting time of the year when people wonder which team will celebrate by getting a chance at the championship? In the North and the East, the Marlins and Yankees are looking to be two top contenders, but it’s the third spot from the South and the wild card pick that is very much undecided. Currently, the Tigers are tied for wins and percentages with three southern teams: Rays, Red Sox, and Pirates.

Thinking I was mistaken on these numbers, I caught up the FCL Red Sox manager, the famous former catcher Jimmy Gonzalez. He had started playing baseball as a catcher with the Astros, Padres, Mets and Expos, before going on to manage the Cubs and Red Sox later in his career. Asking for some clarification of the chances at stake, he confirmed my suspicions.
Pensando que estaba equivocado en estos números, me puse al día con el entrenador de los Medias Rojas de la FCL, el famoso ex receptor Jimmy González. Había empezado a jugar al béisbol como receptor con los Astros, los Padres, los Mets y los Expos, antes de pasar a dirigir a los Cubs y los Medias Rojas más adelante en su carrera. “Yes, currently all tied; however, we play the Rays Tuesday and Thursday. So, it could change there, unless we split and the Pirates lose. It’s crazy right now for sure.”

As much as I would’ve loved to see the Atlanta Braves pull a repeat of what they did last year, which is sneaking into the championship as the wildcard pick and taking the championship title, other teams also want that opportunity. Since Braves won last year, they had a target on their back from other teams eager to taste the championship win. We shall soon see who will get that chance this year.
Por mucho que me hubiera encantado ver a los Bravos de Atlanta repetir lo que hicieron el año pasado, que es colarse en el campeonato como la selección de comodín y tomar el título del campeonato, otros equipos también quieren esa oportunidad.
