Attending America’s Got Talent Semifinals: Asistir a las semifinales de America's Got Talent

Though we originally booked a trip to Hollywood to attend a film festival that one of my projects was selected in, when they abruptly changed the date, and our reservations were non-refundable, we opted to find some free entertainment in Hollywood. If you ever find yourself in that neck of the woods, a really cool thing to do is attend the filming of a live audience show. When we were looking around, the one that seemed the most interesting was America’s Got Talent, so we booked free tickets.

Si alguna vez te encuentras en ese cuello del bosque, una cosa realmente genial que puedes hacer es asistir a la filmación de un espectáculo de audiencia en vivo. Cuando estábamos mirando a nuestro alrededor, el que parecía más interesante era America's Got Talent, así que reservamos entradas gratis.

When we signed up, we had no idea that it would be the semifinals. As a pro tip, they might advertise that filming could take 5 to 6 hours, but since it was the semi-finals, we wound up staying well passed that point. As bathroom breaks might not occur as regularly as you think they would - because even if you have a five minute break, everyone scampers for the bathroom at the same time, leaving you with the chance that they might call everyone back to their seat before you actually get to go - there is a solution for this, and it’s called bring some of your grandma’s potty pads for those accidental leaks.

Cuando nos inscribimos, no teníamos ni idea de que serían las semifinales. Como consejo profesional, podrían anunciar que la filmación podría tomar de 5 a 6 horas, pero como fue una semifinal, terminamos quedándonos y pasaremos ese punto. Como los descansos para ir al baño podrían no ocurrir tan regularmente como crees que lo harían, porque incluso si tienes un descanso de cinco minutos, todos van al baño al mismo tiempo, dejándote con la posibilidad de que puedan llamar a todos de vuelta a su asiento antes de que realmente te vayas, hay una solución para esto, y se llama traer algunas de las toallas de baño de tu abuela para esas fugas accidentales.

The cool thing about America’s Got Talent is that there’s so many cool acts, and you don’t always know what you will see. A huge fan of circus performances, with some of the pandemic spent watching those lovely hour-long specials from Cirque Du Soleil, I was open to being entertained, and we were not disappointed. The show might not air til January, so I can’t ruin the surprises, but I will say it’s worth the experience of seeing behind the scenes, especially since the price of free is in the budget.

Lo bueno de America's Got Talent es que hay tantos actos geniales, y no siempre sabes lo que vas a ver. Un gran fanático de las actuaciones de circo, con parte de la pandemia que pasó viendo esos encantadores especiales de una hora de duración del Cirque Du Soleil, estaba abierto a ser entretenido, y no nos decepcionó. Es posible que el programa no se emiten hasta enero, así que no puedo arruinar las sorpresas, pero diré que vale la pena la experiencia de ver detrás de escena, especialmente porque el precio de la gratis está dentro del presupuesto.
